Breach the barrier of technology: Using Technology in Education
Saturday, August 28th, 2010Running Head: Breaking Barrier Technology Breach the barrier of technology: Using Technology in Education Patrick Wellert ETC 558 Northern Arizona University Abstract It has long been difficult for teachers to effectively communicate the objectives and goals fun and interesting way to reach students. In times of change teachers should find ways to engage students in lessons using technology available to them. It was long believed that teachers should receive more than fear and outdoor use technology with students to meet their educational needs. With the inclusion of students in classes for classroom teachers will experience a positive experience. Breach the barrier of technology: Using Technology in Education Technology and education always seemed to go together. In order to prepare students for work or college, they should be exposed to it. Teachers use technology in the classroom believing that students receive valuable information and retention of concepts taught, but in reality, students should be included in the lesson and participate actively in activities involving technology. Student engagement is essential to motivate students during the learning process. How many students are motivated to learn, the more likely they will be successful in their efforts. (Beeland, 2002). Using technology There are many ways to use technologies that are available for teachers to engage students in a class lesson. These include Interactive whiteboards, PRÓXIMAS, PowerPoint, games, interactive DVD, Ventrilo chat software, MySpace, Easy, and scavenger hunt. To put in place effective use of technology, teachers should help students set achievable goals, encouraging students to evaluate themselves and their colleagues, contribute to the co-operative in working groups and ensure that they like to use all resources available for learning (Hall, 2006). The following are some such technology is used to help students learn. Interactive whiteboards There are two different types of plates. First is a virtual version of a dry erase board. This allows students to see what the instructor or other students write or draw using a special pen. Second functions as a normal board, but also contains a projection screen, electronic board, copy or computer screen on the computer that the image can be controlled by touching or writing on the surface of the panel, rather than using a mouse or your keyboard. They function by connecting the projector panel board using computer software. It is important to know the different functions in order to determine the Whiteboard is appropriate for educators. Knowing the difference can also learn terminology and basic understanding of the functions of each. PRÓXIMAS and PowerPoint PowerPoint is a software program used in classrooms as a tool to engage in learning activities in the curriculum. PowerPoint, allowing teachers and students to actively create graphic presentations, charts, diagrams, photos and slides to help the hours often complex ideas more manageable and understandable. This is a way for students to engage in research and present information to their colleagues. When students actively learning, having an active role in learning, they seem to understand better information, and enjoy the lesson. Using the game also allowed Jones and Mung to address directly the learning needs of visual style (58%) and student-touch (22%), representing eighty percent involved in content-related courses. When constructed with different learning styles in mind, games can often accelerate the learning process (Mung & Jones, 2003). PowerPoint itself is not a cure-all remedy, but a tool that should be understood and used correctly for it to be effective as an active tool in learning. It also showed that students who do not use PowerPoint as a learning tool were engaged in discussions (Rowcliffe, 2003). This will encourage teachers to use PowerPoint as a way to engage students in lessons by stimulating discussion. PowerPoint, which will take place in the classroom, or Interactive Whiteboard proximity is necessary. Proxima computer screen shows a screen much like the film projector. The user is able to display items such as websites, PowerPoint and interactive games. One way for students to interact with this technology is by means of games created by teachers and used in PowerPoint, lesson. Games such as Hollywood Squares, danger, and who wants to be a millionaire is created with slides and links to answer questions. Teachers can use the blank template and fill them with different answers for students to use as a revision. Teachers and students can even create their own review using the blank template. This activity can be used in small group or team setting.
Benefits for students Learning Sciences Research tells us that students learn better “than” instead “to listen.” This means that passive learning – traditional teaching – are replaced in our classrooms for more active stress that the learning activities of students to solve problems, discussions, presentations and other “authentic” learning by doing-business. (Day, 2004). Including students in the realm of possibilities open lesson, because students can retain only about 10% of what I wrote down. Teacher Fear So why are teachers not using technology that is included more often associated with students? There are many reasons why teachers do not feel the dramatic or the use of interactive board, Proxima and PowerPoint. The first of which would be the time of their college prep program before. Teachers are often exposed to new technologies and learning in their teacher prep courses. Some may not be sufficiently prepared to enter the workforce. While availability of technology in U.S. schools has increased (U.S. Department of Education, 2000), information released by the National Education Association (2004), shows that less than 35% of public schools feel they are “well prepared” or “very better prepared “to use this technology effectively. The second reason is blockade or control of school security system. Teachers argue that firewalls and filtering systems to create a barrier to their attempts to educate and communicate with others and with technology (Murray, 2004). Teachers and other users can become frustrated when they do not understand why an object used for hunting site or link is not available in PowerPoint. Inconsistency from school to school is another reason. In one place can have access to different types of technology, while the other is obviously absent. General public perception is that our schools are using technology and managing our resources in this area. In several studies done some schools show almost 100 percent of using technology, while others, the technology is nonexistent (Starr, 2003). Summary This research has shown that there are proven benefits of using technology in classrooms.

The ability to integrate technology in the classroom to add valuable information and ideas of our students. By facilitating PRÓXIMAS, PowerPoint, interactive table, and our teachers will be able to reach a wider audience of students. Shopping Beeland, March D (2002).
